Custom Built-Ins & Storage
Designed for Your Space, Built to Stay
A built-in is the only piece of furniture that can make a room feel like it was always meant to be exactly that way. No gaps between the shelf and the ceiling. No freestanding unit you have to anchor to the wall. No compromise between what you need and what comes in the box.
Rogue Aesthetic Woodwork designs and builds custom built-ins, media walls, storage systems, and shelving for homeowners in Gainesville, High Springs, and throughout North Central Florida. Every project is designed to fit your exact walls, ceilings, and life — measured on-site, built in the shop, and installed to look like it grew there.
We work with homeowners renovating a main living space, new construction clients working with builders who need a trusted millwork partner, and anyone who has looked at off-the-shelf shelving units long enough to know that's not the solution. If storage is the problem, a built-in is the last answer you'll ever need.
Built-in projects start at $5,000. We serve Alachua County and surrounding communities in person and work with clients statewide for projects involving shipping or coordination with local install teams.
What We Build
Bookcases & Library Walls
Floor-to-ceiling shelving that fills a wall the way it deserves to be filled. Adjustable shelves, integrated lighting channels, ladder rail hardware, and painted or hardwood finishes. Built for books, art, and the things that matter.
Media Walls & Entertainment Centers
Custom media walls designed around your specific television size, component equipment, cable management requirements, and the way your family uses the room. Available with closed storage, display shelving, integrated fireplace surrounds, or any combination.
Mudroom & Entryway Storage
Drop zones that actually work — cubbies, hooks, bench seating with storage underneath, and upper cabinets designed around the number of people coming through the door. Built to take the daily punishment of a working family and still look deliberate.
Home Office Built-Ins
Built-in desks, credenzas, bookshelves, and file storage designed for the way you actually work. Whether you need wall-to-wall shelving behind a desk or a complete room system, we design around your workflow, not a catalog layout.
Pantry & Kitchen Storage
Custom pantry shelving, pull-out storage systems, and kitchen cabinetry built from solid hardwood — for clients who want the detail of their kitchen storage to match the care they put into the rest of the house.
Closet Systems
Built-in closet systems in hardwood for primary suites, guest rooms, and dressing rooms where off-the-shelf wire shelving isn't a match for the space.
Materials
Built-ins can be built from solid hardwood, high-grade plywood with hardwood face frames and trim, or a combination — depending on the project scope, budget, and finish intent.
Solid Hardwood Built-Ins: Poplar, maple, cherry, white oak, and walnut are the most common species for built-in work. Painted built-ins typically use poplar for its tight grain and paint-ready surface. Stained or natural-finish built-ins use maple, oak, or cherry depending on the aesthetic.
Plywood Core with Hardwood Faces: For large built-in systems where dimensional stability and budget are considerations, we use void-free cabinet-grade plywood carcasses with solid hardwood face frames, doors, and trim. This is structurally superior to MDF and still builds and finishes beautifully.
Hardware: Soft-close hinges and drawer slides on every cabinet — always. We use Blum, Hafele, and Rev-A-Shelf hardware. Pulls and knobs are client-supplied or sourced through us.
Paint & Finish: Painted built-ins receive two coats of BIN shellac primer and two coats of Benjamin Moore Advance or Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane — the same finish system used by professional cabinet painters. Natural-finish pieces receive species-appropriate oil or lacquer finishes.

-
Yes. Every built-in project includes an on-site measurement visit before design begins. Walls are rarely perfectly square, ceilings are rarely perfectly level, and outlets, vents, and baseboards all have to be accounted for. We measure everything before we design anything.
-
Freestanding furniture moves with you. True built-ins are designed to stay — they're anchored to studs, scribed to walls, and intended as permanent features. That said, modular built-in systems can be designed with moving in mind. Tell us during the consultation if portability matters.
-
Yes. We work with residential interior designers and custom home builders as a trade partner. If you're a designer or builder with a client project that requires custom millwork or built-in work, contact us directly about trade pricing and project coordination.
-
Yes. For built-ins that need to integrate with existing crown molding, baseboard profiles, or door casing, we can match or complement the existing profile. Bring measurements and a photo, or we'll take them on-site.
-
Face-frame cabinetry has a solid wood frame on the front of the cabinet box — the traditional American style, with slightly less interior access but a more classic, furniture-like appearance. Frameless (European-style) cabinetry has no front frame, maximizing interior access and giving a cleaner, more modern look. We build both and will recommend based on your aesthetic and the room.
-
We work around them. Outlets can be relocated inside built-ins (requires an electrician, which we can coordinate), built around with accessible panels, or positioned on the side of the unit. HVAC vents are incorporated into the design with grilles or pass-throughs. We've handled everything — none of it is a dealbreaker.
The room you've been imagining is one conversation away.
Every built-in project starts with an on-site visit and a design conversation — no obligation, no fee. We'll look at the space together, talk through what you need it to do, and give you a clear proposal with fixed pricing before you commit to anything.
