Architectural Millwork & Trim
The Detail That Makes the Difference
The difference between a room that feels finished and one that feels designed isn't always the furniture. More often it's the detail — the crown profile at the ceiling, the mantel that frames the fireplace, the wainscoting that makes the dining room feel deliberate. These are the pieces of a home that most people can't name but everyone notices.
Rogue Aesthetic Woodwork designs and installs custom architectural millwork for homeowners, interior designers, and builders in Gainesville, High Springs, and throughout North Central Florida. Whether you're finishing a new construction home that needs high-end trim work, renovating a room to match the character of an older house, or adding detail to a space that's been missing it — this is the work we do with the same care and precision we bring to every piece that leaves the shop.
Fireplace mantels, coffered ceilings, wall paneling, wainscoting, custom staircases, and finish carpentry that actually finishes. Projects starting at $5,000. We serve clients throughout Alachua County and surrounding communities and coordinate with builders and designers across North Florida.
What We Build
Fireplace Mantels
A mantel is the focal point of the room it's in. We design and build custom mantels in solid hardwood — from clean-lined contemporary profiles to traditional built-up surrounds with pilasters, shelves, and crown details. Installed in any finish: painted, stained, or natural.
Wall Paneling & Board and Batten
Full-wall paneling, shiplap, board and batten, and custom grid systems that add depth and architecture to flat drywall rooms. Designed to the ceiling height, window placement, and proportion of your specific room — not a kit from the hardware store.
Coffered Ceilings
Coffered ceiling systems designed to the specific proportions of your room, built from solid wood and painted or finished to integrate with the existing architecture. One of the highest-impact architectural changes you can make to a room without moving a wall.
Wainscoting & Chair Rail
Traditional and contemporary wainscoting — raised panel, flat panel, or beadboard — with custom chair rail profiles. A well-proportioned wainscoting installation changes the character of a dining room, entryway, or bedroom completely.
Accent Walls & Feature Details
Wood accent walls, floating shelves integrated with millwork, fireplace surrounds with flanking built-ins, and architectural moments designed to anchor a room.
Materials
Millwork and trim can be built from a range of materials depending on whether the finish will be painted or natural, and the profile complexity required.
Poplar
The standard for painted millwork. Tight, consistent grain with minimal movement, machines cleanly, and accepts paint without grain telegraphing through the finish. Our first choice for any painted mantel, paneling, or trim system.
Hard Maple
Used for natural-finish millwork where a clean, consistent grain is desired. Takes stain evenly and finishes beautifully with oil or lacquer.
White Oak
The right choice for natural-finish trim and paneling where grain character matters — the open, linear figure of white oak reads as architectural rather than decorative. Increasingly popular for contemporary interiors.
Walnut and Cherry
Used for high-end natural-finish millwork where the wood itself is the statement. Fireplace mantels and feature walls in walnut are exceptional.
MDF (for painted applications)
Where budget and stability are the priority for painted millwork with complex profiles, we use moisture-resistant MDF for flat components with solid wood for all exposed edges and profiles. We never use MDF for stained or natural-finish work.
Paint System
All painted millwork receives BIN shellac primer plus two finish coats of Benjamin Moore Advance or Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane — a professional cabinet-grade finish system that holds up to cleaning and contact far better than standard wall paint.
Timeline
&
Pricing
Millwork pricing is based on the scope, material, complexity of the profile work, and whether installation is included. Most millwork projects are smaller and faster than furniture or built-in work, which makes them well-suited for clients who want to begin with a focused scope and expand the relationship over time.
Starting price at $5,000 for:
Fireplace mantels
Single-wall wainscoting or paneling
Board and batten accent walls
Timeline:
Millwork projects typically run 4 to 10 weeks depending on scope. A single fireplace mantel can complete in 3 to 4 weeks. A full first-floor trim package for a new construction home — crown, base, door and window casing, wainscoting — typically runs 8 to 12 weeks including shop fabrication and installation.
Builder and Contractor Coordination:
We work regularly with custom home builders and general contractors who need a reliable millwork partner for high-end residential projects. Lead times, material specifications, and sequencing with other trades are coordinated as part of the project scope. Contact us directly for trade inquiries.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. We can match almost any existing crown, base, or casing profile — either by sourcing a matching stock profile or milling a custom match in the shop. Bring a sample piece or clear photos and measurements and we'll identify the closest match.
-
Both. We work directly with homeowners on renovation projects and coordinate with builders on new construction homes requiring high-end millwork packages. If you're a builder looking for a trim and millwork trade partner in the Gainesville area, contact us about trade pricing and project coordination.
-
We paint and finish all millwork we build in the shop before installation whenever possible — this produces a cleaner result than painting in place. Touch-up painting after installation is included. If you prefer to use your own painter for the final coat, we can accommodate that workflow as well.
-
Yes. Millwork upgrades are one of the most effective ways to change the character of a room without touching the structure, floors, or major systems. A fireplace mantel, a wall of wainscoting, or a coffered ceiling can transform a room that's otherwise finished. No general contractor required.
-
Scribing, shimming, and coping are standard parts of professional millwork installation. Older homes in particular rarely have perfectly plumb walls or level ceilings. We account for this during the measurement phase and build scribe allowances into the millwork where needed.
-
Yes. For projects that require electrical work (outlet relocation, lighting integration in mantels or coffered ceilings), we can recommend and coordinate with licensed electricians in the Gainesville area. We're experienced working as part of a multi-trade project and communicate clearly with other contractors to keep projects on schedule.
The room you walk past every day can look exactly the way you've always imagined it.
Custom millwork projects start with a site visit and a free design conversation. We'll look at the space, talk through the options, and give you a written proposal with fixed pricing before you commit to anything.
